The majority of survivalists and serious adventures are well aware of the frozen and dried food replacement option known as MREs. In the event that you are just starting out and don’t know about these, MRE stands for a specially packaged source of food called “Meals Ready To Eat”. They come in very handy for unforeseen emergencies where the nearest source of food is far away or even unknown.

Unfortunately, getting your hands on these meals can sometimes be quite costly unless you know where you can buy them on sale or at a steep discount. The following ideas should get you off on the right track for finding MRE packages:

1. Military surplus outlets would make a great first step in your search because they are the best option for finding survival products. They are usually located in many areas throughout the city. Stores such as this are familiar with these packages, and many of them have a wide assortment to choose from. Prices may vary from store to store so it would be a good idea to make a few calls and ask questions before going.

2. Nature related events are held across the country at different times of the year, and there may be one taking place in your area or coming soon. Look for hiking, gun shows, and even survivalist training workshops. The chance of finding the actual genuine military produced packages may be slim, but there is a chance that you may connect with someone who can point you in the right direction. Also be aware that purchasing from those vendors may be expensive.

3. Online shopping options are available as well. There is no shortage of websites that have MREs for sale, but please be aware that some advertisers claim that the products are military even though they are not. Craigslist, eBay and other sites make it quick and easy to order and have them sent relatively quickly. There may be additional costs associated with the shipping and handling that you should be aware of before picking your items and paying your money.

4. Asking military friends and family could prove to be fruitful also. Veterans are excellent sources of information for things like this. You may have a bit of luck by visiting fire departments and other locations where veterans are employed after returning home. You may be shocked at just how many unused MRE packages veterans have brought home with them and would be glad to sell or maybe even give away.

With a little bit of searching, you will be able to find MREs for sale online or elsewhere. Just make sure to choose wisely, so you don’t get ripped off.
